roxbury

i haven't written a blog in months simply because i can't think straight.  this is my attempt at writing, hopefully, a good one.  being that it is officially summertime, i have to write about something summery..kim barile this is for you lol.

roxbury. what the fuck is a roxbury?  to put it simply, think some of your favorite summer songs: some may be about having sing-a-longs by bonfires, drinking with friends, night swimming, making out in the sand, fireworks, love, or staying up all night.  roxbury encompasses all of those songs.

i'm not going to say where roxbury is, but i will tell you that this seemingly so-far-away-place is only 22 miles from new york city, which i think makes it surreal.

someone once told me that roxbury is the "hamptons on crack" and it is.  roxbury is a beach community that is seemingly not part of new york, the united states, or the real world.

it's is a beach community ... without an ocean, only a bay.  it is not controlled by the nyc police department ... they have their own police, the "dinks."  it has no streets ... just alley ways and a parking lot.  OH! and there are no enforced rules.

roxbury is not pompous, showy, egocentric, or celebrity-driven like the hamptons.  roxbury is only simple, free, and relationship-driven.  actually, i lied, the only time roxbury is showy is on mardi gras, but that's another story.

in roxbury, you leave your problems in the parking lot.  call me cliche, but it's a place of happiness.  it's always sunny; wellll, at least it always feels sunny.

roxbury, for the most part, does not change.  even though most relationships only exist for a season, they grow stronger and better every year.  we're miles, months, experiences, and a tan apart, but every memorial day weekend, we return to each other, to our much simpler selves.  as well as all the good times, all summer songs include saying goodbye, and this is one of the worst parts about roxbury.  goodbyes are always hard, but we've all gotten good at it, and for some reason, the sand never washes from our feet.

i could go on-and-on about all the little, wonderful details about roxbury, but some things need to be left unsaid and left to only experiences and after experiencing roxbury, you'll really understand that life really is better at the beach.
